Adorable Valentines

My roommates and I decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day together. I made Meagan (my designated Valentine) a card on a piece of recycled construction paper, but she went all out for me. Meagan and one of my other roommates took sticky notes and led us to their Valentines on our beds. It was by far one of the best Valentine’s I had ever received (or even seen).

Don’t worry, none of the paper went to waste, I am keeping them : )

Great ideas for the next year

After hearing so many people talking about their New Years resolutions, I decided I should share my list of resolutions great ideas for the next year. I refuse to call them resolutions mostly because I do not want to have that irritating commitment that you then fail to accomplish and by March have completely forgotten. Instead I will have a list of things that would be great if I could stick to, but when I can’t keep them up, it won’t be so bad.

1. Cook for myself more often. I will take advantage of the freezer and cook my own “frozen meals.”

2. Avoid buying things, used or otherwise. The past few months I have had a serious weakness for clothes. In my defense, I have been buying pieces that will last me well into my future, and will also work great at a job. Plus, it was really time to get rid of my sweatshirts that I wore through high school.

3. Find the best homemade brownies and ditch the mixes. My roommates and I keep eating brownies, and I really think they would be better if they didn’t come out of box.

4. Spend more time doing fun things for blog and less time worrying about all of the other things I have to do.

5. Green the newsroom. I know they endlessly make fun of me for reminding them to recycle or double print things, but whatever.

6. Introduce my roommates to composting, and accept the fact now that I will be the only one to take it to the compost bin outside.

And now I am going to break one of them… I will start tomorrow.

Family Dinner

My roommates and I decided that we would have a “family dinner” every Sunday where we would cook and eat together. Because this weekend is the first Sunday that we have all been together and settled, we had our first dinner. We made lemon pasta and sautéed green beans.

I had every intention of taking a really nice photo of what we ate and of all of us squished around our table, but I had to get to a meeting and we ended up having to rush.

With all of our insane schedules we wanted to set aside a time that was just for us. We plan on cooking together, catching up, and making necessary arrangements for the rest of the week (like who is cleaning what, the items we are running out of, and anything else that we would like everyone to know). Although this may not be a necessary sustainable practice (although we did eat home-cooked, organic food), it is still a way of sustaining relationships and a comfortable living arrangement (which is especially important in college).

My 100th post

It seems crazy to me that I have written 100 posts since April. I just wanted to let everyone know how thankful I am for every person who reads my blog, talks about it, laughs at it, spreads the word about it, and talks to me about it. I can’t wait for the next 100’s of posts.
